It all began from something so small. One day I was brainstorming about how I could bring in a few extra dollars. It then occurred to be that there were so many items that people were just discarding. Then I began to consider how much of those items could be put to good use and there were so many families that were in need but couldn’t afford brand new things. Not to mention all of the waste that was being taken to the landfill everyday. So thus, it began…
After about a year and a half of rescuing people’s discarded items, refurbishing and cleaning them and then recirculating them into the community I noticed a reoccurring situation. People began to open up to me for support. I began coming across individuals who had whole houses full of items to go through. Be it due to the loss of a loved one or a transfer to a different city or state or evening combining households.
I then began to think into a few situations where I had lost a loved one. My mom was the first person I thought of to be exact. I thought about how the last thing I wanted to do was go through my childhood home and all of her belongings while I was grieving her loss. I thought about how nice it would’ve been to have had someone to support the family through such an arduous and emotionally draining task. I also thought about the times when loved ones or friends had moved long distances and the stress the idea of downsizing for the move caused.
It was then, that I decided…I’m the one, I get to be that person! I get to be the sound mind, the gentle heart and the calm in the storm of a life change that is bound to happen to all of us one way or another. I love the connection with new people, the thrill of going through the treasures that they don’t even know they have, and watching the peace wash over them when it is all finished.
